The tour of the Rideļi Mill offers to learn about flour milling equipment and the milling process.
The equipment at the mill is set up and the milling process takes place on 3 floors. The grain is fed in on the 3rd floor and the ready-made product is obtained on the 1st floor. The grain travels about 32 metres. The machinery separates the coarse and light admixtures, as well as rocks and weeds. Brushes remove dust and ends of grains. When the grain is cleaned, grinding begins. Grain is fed through fine grinding rollers five times. But to obtain cream of wheat, a special machine to make cream of wheat is set to work after the third grinding time. It is possible to obtain 2 types of cream of wheat: coarse and fine. The first floor hosts also pearl-barley machine. Pearl-barley is obtained by hulling barley grain. However, to get groat, pearl-barley is fed through the second floor fine grinding rollers.
The mill work is mostly mechanized. During one shift, serviced by 2 people – the miller and an assistant, it is possible to mill about 3.5 tonnes of grain.
